Mike Garson, "Bowie's
Piano Man," Joins Staff!
Mike Garson, the legendary pianist/composer, will join
the 2022 Drum Fantasy Camp
staff. Mike will join guitarist Vinny Valentino and
bassist Hagar Ben Ari as a co-instructor in Mark
Guiliana's classes. All full-camp attendees and those
who purchase Mark's class separately will get to learn
with Mr. Garson. He will also sit in at the
opening concert.
Garson was David Bowie's longest-serving and most
frequently appearing band member. They appeared on stage
more 1,000 times together. Garson now heads up "A Bowie
Celebration," the annual tour that features top pop acts
paying tribute to David Bowie.
A true jazz master, Garson is equally comfortable and
welcomed in the pop world. He has recorded/performed
with Smashing Pumpkins, Nine Inch Nails, St. Vincent,
and many more. DFC attendees will benefit from Mike's
deep music knowledge.

Chad Wackerman and Janek Gwizdala Round out 2019 Staff!
Drumming legendy Chad
Wackerman has joined staff! Chad will join Dennis
Chambers, Steve Smith, and Gergo Borlai August
9-13 at the incredible Vic's Drum Shop
in Chicago!
Chad is best-known for his cutting-edge work with Allan
Holdsworth and Frank Zappa. Chad's versatility has
earned him countelss other gigs with stars such as
Barbara Streisand as well rock and fusion gigs
worldwide. He's also an accomplished bandleader and
educator.
Janek Gwizdala is one of the most in-demand bass players
on the planet. A Berklee alum, Janek regularly tours
with Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Wayne Krantz, Marcus
Miller, and many more.
He's an accomplished teacher and
will join Vinny Valentino in teaching the optional
Groove Class. You can choose that during the
registration process!
We're thrilled to have both of these fantastic
musicians!

Gergo started playing drums at the age of three and was

Matt Garstka and Robert "Sput Searight" Round out 2018
Roster!
Drum Fantasy Camp is
excited to welcome two first-time instructors to our
roster!
Robert "Sput" Searight hit the scene
hard with his contributions to the band "Snarky
Puppy." Robert has been involved in many large
pop projects, such as Justin Timberlake, Celine Dion,
and P Diddy. He is also a busy composer and producer.
Matt Garstka has made a name for
himself as an incredibly versatile drummer who drives
the very popular band "Animals As Leaders."
Matt and Sput round out a powerful DFC roster
with Todd Sucherman and the legendary

Simon Phillips Joins DFC 2017! Legendary drummer Simon Phillips has
rounded out the list of instructors for 2017!
Simon is well-known for his early work with artists such
as Jeff Beck and Joe Satriani. He also made a huge

Simon has been redefining fusion as part of Hiromi: The
Trio Project, and his own band, Protocol.

Stu Mindeman Joins the DFC Staff! Stuart Mindeman is a versatile
pianist/keyboardist skilled in various styles of music
including Jazz, Pop, R&B, Classical, Salsa/Latin music,
Gospel, and more.
He has shared the stage with such names as Fareed Haque,
Gloria Estefan, Rodney Whitaker, Claudio Roditi, John
Clayton, El Gran Combo de Puerto Rico, and many others.
He is also active in Chicago’s Theater community,
musically directing for The Second City, among others.
In addition to performing, Stuart maintains a private
studio, and is on faculty at the Chicago Academy for the
Arts.

Drum Fantasy Camp Turkey Wraps Up!
The first-ever international
Drum Fantasy Camp wrapped up today! The camp was held at
the beautiful Bilkent hotel in Ankara, Turkey.
Steve Smith, Thomas Lang, Jojo Mayer, and Teymuralp
Merter Fosforoglu were the drumming instructors. As
always, our world-class band opened the camp with a
blowout concert! Baron Browne (bass), Tom Coster (keys),
Chrissi Poland (vocals), and Vinny Valentino (guitar)
brought down the house - and also ran our jam nights,
where the attendees got to play!
On the closing night, legendary jazz fusion group Vital
Information performed to a huge crowd!

The sixth annual Drum Fantasy Camp took place August
9-13 in Cleveland. Keith Carlock, Peter Erskine, Will
Kennedy, Steve Smith, and Dave Weckl were the featured
drum instructors. Retired Cincinnati Symphony
percussionist Bill Platt joined Peter Erskine's classes
for lessons in great hand technique!
Clinic and Concert Tickets on Sale! Tickets are now on sale for
the August 9 clinic and all-star concert at Cleveland's
House of Blues! The clinic starts at Noon and the
concert starts at 7:30 p.m.
The clinic features all five drumming instructors. They
will perform together and run a roundtable discussion.

The concert will feature all five instructors sitting in
with bassist John Benitez, keyboardist Jay Oliver,

Registration Opens for Bass, Guitar and Keyboard
Players! Registration is now open for
bass, guitar and keyboard players! You can take classes
with John Benitez, Jay Oliver or Vinny Valentino!
These classes will run very much the way our drumming
classes do. You will take two three-hour classes per day
for four days - and - you'll join the drum campers and
instructors at our three Jam Nights! You'll even get to
jam with the band, AND get a free ticket to the opening
House of Blues concert!

John Benitez Joins Staff! Grammy award winning bassist
John Benitez has joined the staff of Drum Fantasy Camp.
He will perform at both concerts, and accompany
attendees during our three Jam Nights!
John has recorded and performed with top players around
the world, including Chick Corea and Eddie Palmieri. His
solid groove and his mastery of Latin rhythms puts him
among the industry's elite. He's also a fantastic human
being!
Drum Fantasy campers are extremely lucky to perform with
John during Drum Fantasy Camp!

Welcome Will Kennedy! Will Kennedy, the fantastic
longtime drummer of the legendary fusion group The
Yellowjackets, has joined the Drum Fantasy Camp staff!
Will is an amazing addition to the staff and we're lucky
to have him! His amazing groove and teaching chops will
leave attendees with plenty to think about and practice.

Registration Opens for the 2012 Drum Fantasy Camp
The camp will take place August 9-13 at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel in Cleveland, Ohio. Keith Carlock, Peter
Erskine, Steve Smith, and Dave Weckl are confirmed. One
more full-time instructor will be added, along with some
bonus classes.

DFC at the NAMM Show Drum Fantasy Camp attended the
2012 NAMM Show this past January.
The show attracted more than 90,000 attendees,
representing the music industry in hardware, software,
music publishing, and more. DFC director Steven Orkin
visited many of the camp's sponsors and artists.
DFC instructors Peter Erskine, Steve Smith, and Dave
Weckl performed during NAMM. It was another amazing
year!

2011 Drum Fantasy Camp Wrapup Drum Fantasy Camp wrapped up
its 5th annual camp today.
77 full-time campers of all ages and from 16 countries
attended. The Mike Stern Band featuring Tom Kennedy and
Bob Franceschini opened the camp. Dave Weckl performed
with The Jam Night Band on the last night of the camp.
