The following is a list of
frequently-asked-questions. If you still need assistance, our
contact information is in the right column of this page.
Thank you!
Q. What is Drum Fantasy Camp?
A. Drum Fantasy Camp is the
world's leading drum education experience. It is a unique event
where drummers of all levels and from all over the world learn from
the very best drummers in the world - all in an intimate and
personal setting. Attendees experience 8 three-hour master classes,
two amazing concerts, and three Jam Nights where the campers play
with world-class musicians. The 2013 camp will take place August
8-12 at the Hyatt Regency hotel and House of Blues in Cleveland,
Ohio. We also do a camp in Ankara, Turkey.
Q. What makes
Drum Fantasy Camp different than other drum camps?
A. First and foremost,
it's our instructors. Year-after-year, our drumming instructors are
among the most accomplished drummers in the world. Their recording
and performance credits speak volumes, and each is a world-class
educator. Drum Fantasy Camp is the only camp where attendees get to
spend six hours in the classroom with each instructor on their
schedule. Additionally, no other camp runs a blowout concert like
our opening day House of Blues show. Finally, no other camp
assembles a band like our Jam Night band - offering our attendees
the opportunity to perform with the best - and feel totally
comfortable.
Q. Where
and when is the camp taking place?
A.
The Camp takes place in
Cleveland, Ohio,
August 8-12, 2013.
Cleveland is a great
town and there is plenty to do. Though we'll keep
you busy with the camp, there are great restaurants
near the hotel. Plus, the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame is right down the street, along with
Progressive Field and some of the country's
finest museums. Check out the
travel page for details on how
you can make the trip even MORE fun!
Q. What
does the camp cost?
A.
Pricing for the American camp is available on
the camp info
page.
Q. How do I
know if I am at the right playing level in order to
enjoy and appreciate this experience?
A. Drum Fantasy Camp
is designed for drummers of all levels.
When you fill out the registration
form, you will tell us about your playing level and we
will use this information to place with a group of similar drummers.
The master classes are intimate and cover both broad concepts plus
more focused individual topics. There are less than 20 people in a
class, so your input affects how the class runs. Even if you're not
a high-level player, you'll love the camp if you enjoy talking it
and learning about drums.
Q. What about food?
A.
Food is not included - but it will be readily
available and good! At the American camp, there are great restaurants right behind the
hotel in Cleveland's
East
4th neighborhood. During "Jam Nights," the hotel will have
food and drinks available for purchase.
Q. Is this an "overnight" camp?
A.
Yes, but this is your choice. If you live close to one of our camp, we have
a less expensive package without a hotel room.
We will secure rooms for those who are traveling
(roughly 90% of our campers travel to the camp from
out of the state and the country). The rooms are
included for the "camp" package and you will find
this to be the least expensive way to stay.
If you stay with us, we will assign you a roommate. If you would
like to stay with someone in particular, please let us know on the
registration form and we will make every effort to accommodate you.
Either way, you should know that very little time is spent in the
hotel room. We keep you busy!
If you would like a private room, please choose that package.
Q. I can't stay for the
whole camp. Can I come for only part of the camp?
A.
Yes. We have several options available, including individual classes
and day packages. Some packages include the opening clinic/concert
event. Click
here to read about camp packages for the
American camp. Please note that partial-camp packages will
be made available later this spring.
Q. What is the general
atmosphere of the camp? Is it competitive?
A. The philosophy of
Drum Fantasy Camp is on par with the instructors who
will teach there. That is: drumming is part of making music,
and music is not a competition.
From the large group sessions to the
intimate master study groups and the "Jam Night" performances, you
learn and share perspectives on drumming in the most positive and
professional manner. And we have found that many past attendees have
stayed in touch after the camp.
There is a lot of bonding and sharing
of information at the camp. It's a great atmosphere.
Q. What kind of access will I have to the instructors?
A.
The entire staff will be available throughout the camp because they
are staying at the hotel and eating their meals there, too. Though
they will need breaks just as all the campers will, you will find
them hanging around between classes, during the jams, and in
neighboring restaurants.
These are great times to ask
questions and get answers. We just ask that this be done in a
courteous manner with the instructors and other campers in mind.
Q. How old do you have to be to attend this camp?
A. Drum Fantasy Camp
attracts people of all ages. The age range usually ranges from 10-65. All are
welcome, but there are a few guidelines for younger attendees:
Participants
must be 18 years-of-age to stay overnight at the camp alone.
Participants under the age of 18 may stay overnight if accompanied
by a parent or approved family member. Participants under the age of
15 must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
Parent/guardians are
not allowed in the classes so that there are no
distractions! The hotel has plenty of comfortable
areas to spend time during classes.
Q. I am a music teacher and
want to bring a group of students. Is there a discount?
A.
Absolutely. Please write to us at
questions@drumfantasycamp.com to discuss a group discount.
Q. What should I bring to the
camp?
A. Please make sure to bring your favorite pair of sticks
and a practice pad. We will also have sticks available for purchase.
Also, make sure to bring a camera to capture some incredible
memories!
Q. What styles of drumming are covered at the camp?
A.
The curriculum of Drum Fantasy Camp
focuses on building a foundation of solid technique, practice
routines, performance prowess, and music industry knowledge. Several
styles will be addressed depending on the instructors and the
attendees.
See the
instructors page for more information
about instructors.
Q. Are the clinic and concerts
open to the public?
A. Yes - anyone can attend the opening clinic and concert. If you are registered
for any of the full camp packages, you automatically get one ticket. If
you want to just attend the concert and/or the opening clinic, you
can purchase a separate ticket.
Jam Nights are only open to
full-time attendees (plus the four-class package), and family
membes.

marketing and management services to Dave Weckl, Steve Smith, and
other top drummers. The camp has been designed by
OMC with the direct input of the instructors, but is owned
and operated privately.

registration page to read the cancellation policy.
